From Novice to Knowledge: How Nonprofit Support Network Transformed Daniel Gurule's Fundraising Journey
Since he started his position as manager of donor relations for Erskine Green Training Institute (EGTI) developed by The Arc of Indiana, Daniel Gurule has utilized the programs and resources offered by Nonprofit Support Network. When Daniel started with EGTI which provides options for postsecondary vocational training for adults with disabilities, he was a training specialist for students in the program.
He served these individuals compassionately while in his position, this allowed him to use his passion and understanding of EGTI’s story to become a part of fundraising initiatives. With no prior fundraising experience, Daniel searched for learning opportunities around him and was met with defeat when learning that programs such as the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy were a costly expense.
“The Nonprofit Support Network launched at the perfect time and completely saved me; I was provided access to the fundraising knowledge I had been looking for. After meeting with Carly, it was clear to me that Nonprofit Support Network was the connector I had been looking for. I began participating in the Development Huddle, the peer group for fundraising and development professionals, this group and other fundraising training covered all of what I needed to learn, but even better than what other resources could have offered because the information is tailored to serving nonprofits in our community.” - Daniel Gurulé
Daniel’s confidence has grown within his role at EGTI since being connected with Nonprofit Support Network. He takes what he has learned to help support others in his role, in a recent situation he met with co-workers after one of his Development Huddles, and he completely changed their thought process and helped them proceed strategically in their fundraising efforts.
When thinking of the support he has received from Nonprofit Support Network this past year, Daniel points out, that it really has been a lifesaver. He has not only benefited from the information in the peer groups but also thrives from the connections made with others in the room each has various experiences and challenges of their own. He is always learning from others and learning with his peers helps him even more.
